Berlin – The sales of the company, headed by Elon Musk, the American billionaire joining the administration of President Donald Trump, decreased by 49% during January and February to record 19 thousand vehicles compared to 37 thousand vehicles in the same period in 2024, according to the European auto manufacturers’ data.

With this decrease, Tesla’s share of the European auto market fell from 2.1% to 1.1%, compared to a noticeable increase in electric car sales in the European Union countries, as the Association of Automobile Manufacturers indicated an increase of 28.4% in the registration of electric vehicles that run in batteries during the same period of this year compared to 2024.

Tesla’s share lost 30.25% since the beginning of the year, ending the last trading session yesterday at $ 272.

“This decline in sales numbers is normal prior to the launch of a new model,” said Bayrica Kim, director of the Automobile Research Center.

She added in an interview with Al -Jazeera Net in Berlin that “the entry of other brands, whether it is entrenched or emerging, to the market with attractive electric vehicles, has increased the intensity of competition within this sector, especially in light of the increasing demand for electric cars in various groups.”

However, Kaim pointed out that “the activities with political motives carried out by CEO Elon Musk are not always understanding or acceptance, whether at the level of public opinion or in political circles, regardless of his role in the recent German election campaign or in the American political scene,” considering that this may be one of the reasons that affect Tesla currently.

Germany sales

The Federal Transport Authority in Germany announced a significant decrease in the new Tesla records in the country, as it decreased 76% during last February compared to the same period of the previous year, while the decrease in January reached 59%.

Tesla has a factory in Greenheida, near the capital, Berlin.

Germany is the largest market in Europe, especially in the electric cars sector, and while the luxury cars category, which is classified as Tesla, has witnessed remarkable growth, Kaim says that the decline in Tesla sales is due to several factors, the most prominent of which is “long waiting by consumers for new innovations within the set of Tesla models, whether in terms of updated copies or new models, in addition to that many of the firm brands It has become strong alternatives, as well as entering new brands to the market such as China, Vietnam and the American company.

Kaim did not rule out that “some of the Tesla leaders are rapprochement with the Alternative Party for the right -wing Germany, a reason behind some consumers and German authorities decisions against Tesla models”, and in light of this rapprochement many German companies ended their contracts with Tesla as a supplier of the fleets They rejected Elon Musk’s positions.

The limited assortment of Tesla models is one of the most prominent challenges facing the company in the European market. At a time when traditional manufacturers in Europe and new arrivals, especially from China, continue to offer more modern and technical models with competitive prices, Tesla is required to renew what is offered by models.

Despite the leadership of the American company in the past in the field of electric vehicles, and its success in providing attractive vehicles backed by advanced infrastructure for car charging, in addition to an open strategy in providing their technology, this is no longer sufficient, according to Kaim, which confirms that “other companies are now providing a broader group of models at more competitive prices, which is not limited to Chinese companies only, but also includes European manufacturers Traditional. “

The battle of survival

Tesla today faces what Kaim described as a “battle of survival” in the European market; The future of the company has become dependent on its ability to overcome this decline, especially since many question marks are raised about whether this decrease is the result of the postponement of the launch of new models, or if the matter is deeper than that.

Kaim concludes by emphasizing the importance of “clarifying issues related to data security and vehicle safety, especially with regard to self -driving or semi -self -driving systems” FSD “not only in the United States, but at the global level”, as one of the factors that may determine the fate of Tesla in the next stage.
