Argentine lawyers and politicians accused President Javier Millie of defrauding a criminal court after what was described as a scandal related to an encrypted currency, according to media reports published on Monday.

Lawyers Millie were accused of promoting an encrypted currency called “$ Libra” on social media, before its value collapsed only hours of its announcement.

Judge Maria Rommelda Servini was assigned to investigate the complaints submitted.

Special project

Millie published a message on the “X” platform on Friday evening, in which he praised a “special” project aimed at “stimulating the growth of the Argentine economy”.

Thus, millions of followers on social media directed the cryptocurrency, which led to a high value, and within hours, its value has multiplied more than 4 times, which made the total amount due equal to 4 billion dollars, then collapsed, which led to the speculators incurring significant losses.

“The world wants to invest in Argentina. $ Libra,” the post said in Argentina.

Miley confirmed that he met the people who suggested the cryptocurrency, and said that he had not published it on social media with the intention of persuading people to buy them, but rather to raise awareness about the efforts made to support the Argentine companies using encrypted currencies.

He added in an interview with a local television station: “I am not an expert. My specialty is economic growth, with money and without him … as an enthusiastic man of high technology that sees the possibility of a tool for financing entrepreneurs projects, I publish the word.”

Pulling

Millie’s critics stress that he participated in a fraud known as “carpet withdrawal”, a common trick in the encrypted currency sector.

This process includes attracting the largest possible number of investors using a new encrypted currency. When the value of the currency increases significantly, the main investors sell their shares or withdraw money from the currency, which leads to the collapse of its value.

The leftist “Popular Unity” party accuses President Millie of being “part of an illegal association” that committed a “huge fraud” that affected “more than 40,000 people with losses exceeding 4 billion dollars.”

The party announced the start of procedures to isolate the president, as Miley opponents need a majority of two -thirds of the members of the House of Representatives, then in the Senate.

Political observers currently believe that the isolation process is unrealistic, although the Milli party has a small number of deputies, it can rely on the support of conservative parties.

The Argentine government launched an “urgent investigation” during the weekend, while Miley asked himself from the Anti -Corruption Office to determine whether there was “inappropriate behavior from a member of the national government, including the president himself.”
