The Funke Media Group newspapers reported – based on the Federal Networks Agency – that this increase is primarily due to a significant increase in gas consumption in the industrial sector, and explained that consumption has increased since the beginning of last October by 2.7% compared to the same period last year. .
For his part, the head of the Federal Networks Agency, Klaus Müller, called again for rationalizing gas consumption, and said, “The tanks are filled by about 90%, and we have stable imports that secure our gas supplies,” indicating that a gas shortage is unlikely to occur during this winter. .
While gas consumption in households and the commercial sector has increased by 5.2% since the beginning of October, gas consumption in the industrial sector has increased by 1.11%.
However, total gas consumption recorded a decrease of 9.13% compared to its level in the winter between 2018 and 2021, that is, the period before the cessation of Russian gas supplies to Germany.
The federal and state governments are intensifying campaigns to rationalize energy consumption, and Berlin has allocated a large support package for the population with a total value of 200 million euros, specifically to cap electricity and gas prices, as well as to confront inflation, and hundreds of thousands of residents have received direct financial support.
