Morocco and Mauritania have signed 3 agreements to enhance cooperation in the field of fishing between the two countries. This came during the work of the joint committee between the two countries that were held in the city of Agadir in central Morocco, according to the Moroccan News Agency yesterday, Saturday.
The signing ceremony was chaired by the Moroccan state writer in charge of marine fishing, Zakia Al -Dariush, and the Minister of Fishing and Maritime Infrastructure and Mauritanian port, the virtuous ladies Ahmed Lolly.
This was on the sidelines of the activities of the seventh session of the “Ailitis” International Fishing Exhibition, which is organized in Agadir between the sixth and ninth of February under the slogan “Research and Innovation for Sustainable Maritime Hunting”, with the participation of representatives of 54 countries.
The three agreements are:
- The first agreement included the field of health and veterinary monitoring.
- The second agreement relates to the field of maritime research, and includes the implementation of joint activities and research during the period between 2025 and 2026.
- The third agreement relates to the field of maritime training, and aims to develop high -quality programs and create new formations related to the professions of transforming marine fishing products.
Morocco is one of the leading countries in the fishing sector at the level of the African continent, with African production for 2024 with a size of about 1.42 million tons, ranking 13th globally.
His exports in this sector also amounted to about 31 billion dirhams (3.1 billion dollars) during the year 2023.
Morocco has two naval interfaces, which extends for 3500 km, including more than 500 km on the Mediterranean Sea in the north, and about 3 thousand kilometers on the Atlantic Ocean in the west.
On the other hand, Mauritania has a coast of more than 700 km on the Atlantic Ocean, which enhances the opportunities for joint cooperation in the field of exploiting marine resources and developing their associated industries.
Electrical connection agreement
Morocco and Mauritania had signed an electrical connection agreement last Tuesday, according to a statement by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water in Morocco (government), issued after heading the general manager of the office, Tariq Haman and the general manager of the Mauritanian Electricity Company, Sidi Salem Mohamed Al -Abd, a meeting in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, witnessed the signing of Agreement.
The statement pointed out that the electrical connection between the two countries opens horizons for energy exchange between them and Europe and West Africa, as part of the energy gathering of West Africa.
In December 2023, the ministers of the African coast countries, in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, agreed to establish a national team in each country to prepare and propose ways to activate an international initiative for King Mohammed VI, to benefit the countries of the Sahel from the Atlantic Ocean.
