The Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Minerals in Senegal announced, through its official account on the X platform, that the total production of the Sangomar seaport of crude oil amounted to 3.11 million barrels during the month of January.
According to the Sangomar Production Report (January 2025) – recently, 3 shipments of crude oil were exported with a total of 2.89 million barrels to global markets, which indicates the increasing demand for Senegalese oil in the international market.
The ministry expects that the total crude oil production for 2025 will reach about 30.53 million barrels, while maintaining a fixed daily production rate of 100,000 barrels throughout the year, as part of a strategic plan to enhance production and achieve optimal benefit from oil resources.
In December 2024, crude oil production reached about 2.96 million barrels, during which 3 international shipments were exported with a total size of 2.94 million barrels, which reflects the continued strong performance in production and export, according to the same source.
The total annual production in 2024 amounted to 16.9 million barrels of crude oil, exceeding the initial target of 11.7 million barrels, which indicates the success of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and increase production capacity, the report says.

It is noteworthy that Senegal has officially entered the list of oil producing countries in June 2024, after the start of commercial exploitation in the Sangomar sea field, which is about 100 km off the coast of the capital, Dakar.
The Australian company “Woodside Energy” occupies the field, at a time when Senegal aims to consolidate its position as an active force in the regional and international energy market.
In addition to oil, the “turtle-Hmeim” field with Mauritania is one of the most important projects, with reserves estimated at about 100 trillion cubic feet of gas, and an expected annual production capacity of about 2.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas in its first stage.
Senegal also has mineral reserves, most notably titanium with revenues in 2022 of more than 157 million dollars, and gold with exports exceeding $ 960 million annually, while zircon exports recorded approximately $ 112 million.
The mining sector is the second source of foreign currencies, and it constitutes approximately 20% of the total exports of the state, with a margin of movement with a few points up and down, according to unofficial figures.
