Russian news agencies reported that data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade showed sales of new passenger cars in Russia increasing 47% year-on-year to 1.55 million vehicles in 2024.
The head of the Russian automobile market analysis agency (Autostat), Seri Tsilikov, predicted last December that new sales in 2025 would decline by about 10% to 1.43 million vehicles as high inflation rates and replacement fees push prices higher.
The Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2022 radically reshaped the automobile market in Russia, with Western automakers exiting the country and Chinese companies rushing to fill the production gap.
Sales declined in 2022 but have steadily recovered.
Previous forecast
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov expected late last month that new car sales in all sectors in Russia would reach about 1.8 million units in 2024, with passenger car sales reaching 1.5 million units.
He added in a television interview – at the time – that market and production growth was expected to reach about 30% to 40% in 2024.
Manturov added that car production will reach about 980,000 units in 2024, including about 750,000 passenger cars.
