The number of tourists who visited Turkey during the period from the beginning of January to the end of November of this year increased by 11.82% compared to the same period last year, according to a statement published today by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which indicates that things are moving in the direction of plans. The state aims to increase the number of tourists during the current and next year.
The Ministry explained that Turkey received 52 million 742 thousand and 526 visitors during the aforementioned period.
According to the statement, among the visitors were 46 million 725 thousand 424 foreigners, in addition to 6 million 17 thousand 102 Turkish citizens residing abroad.
Russians topped the list of foreign tourists visiting Turkey the most during the first 11 months of this year, followed by Germans in second place, then citizens of the United Kingdom in third place, then Bulgarians and Iranians, respectively.
It is noteworthy that Turkey’s revenues from the tourism sector amounted to about $46.28 billion last year, according to the Turkish Statistical Authority (TurkStat).
The Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance has set a goal of receiving 60 million foreign tourists in 2023, and increasing tourism revenues to $56 billion during the current year. The country also aims to receive 90 million tourists in 2028, and raise tourism revenues to $100 billion.
The Turkish government attaches great importance to the tourism sector, and is constantly working to develop it, as it is one of the most important economic sectors and an important source of national income. The sector enjoys a strong infrastructure, tourist facilities, and services that have made it advanced globally.
