Qatar Airways will resume its flights to Syria, starting January 7, by launching 3 flights per week to the city of Damascus – after about 13 years of suspension.
Qatar Airways stated in a statement that its decision confirms its commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and meeting the increasing demand from travelers.
Qatar Airways said that it is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that all flights to Syria meet the necessary safety, security and operational standards before resuming.
The appeal decision comes about a month after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Badr Mohammed Al Meer, said: “We are pleased to announce the resumption of Qatar Airways’ flights to Syria, a country with a rich history and culture. This announcement also confirms our commitment to connecting communities and facilitating travel.”
Travelers to and from Damascus will benefit from Qatar Airways service and access to Hamad International Airport in Qatar.
The Director of Coordination of Syrian Airports Affairs, Ashhad Al-Salibi, told Al Jazeera last month that Al-Jazeera and Turkish will be among the first companies to resume flights to Syria.
