Argentine football star Lionel Messi launched a real estate investment fund in the Spanish market at a price of 57.4 euros per share, bringing the fund’s market value to 223 million euros.
Messi, the current Inter Miami player and former Barcelona striker, assumed the chairmanship of the board of directors of Edificio Rostaur Sotheme, according to documents published by the Portfolio Stock Exchange, a European alternative market under the supervision of the Bank of Spain (the Spanish Central Bank).
According to the documents, the company “Edificio Rostaur Sothemi” owns 7 hotels in Spain and Andorra, 3 office spaces and 5 apartments, in addition to apartments in London and Paris.
According to records published by Portfolio Stock Exchange, the company was founded in 2013, and recorded a loss of 1.7 million euros in 2023.
The company has not yet responded to a request for comment about its debut on the stock market yesterday, Monday.
Most of the company’s investments are in the Spanish region of Catalonia, where Messi (37 years old) moved to life there in 2000 at the age of 13 to join the Barcelona youth team.
Messi lived there until 2021 when he surprisingly left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain after the debt-ridden Catalan club said it could not afford to keep him due to La Liga’s financial fair play rules.
The long-time 8-time Ballon d’Or winner said he plans to return to life in Barcelona with his wife and three children after his retirement.
Antonella Roccuzzo, Messi’s wife, serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. The other members of the board are Alfonso Nebot, who runs Messi’s family office, and Ramon Adele, who serves on the board of directors of the Spanish energy company Naturgy.
