A grandmother who allegedly disinvited her grandson from holiday celebrations to “keep the magic of Christmas alive” for other children because he does not believe in Santa Claus has drawn the thunder of Internet users, who contested its priorities.
“My daughter told us that she would not make her son lie (…) I told her that if she did not speak to her son, they could spend Christmas in their apartment,” the grandmother said on Monday. anonymous, on the Reddit platform, reported the “New York Post”.
On Monday, the one whom the American media described as “the Grinch of real life” had turned to the Internet to obtain the opinion of Internet users, after having disinvited her 25-year-old daughter and her grandson, whose age n was not specified, because he would have been raised without Christmas magic and would not believe in Santa Claus.
The problem, she explained in her publication, is that the grandmother would like to keep “the magic of the holidays alive” for her two children aged 9 and 7, from her second marriage.
“I still put presents under the tree with “from Santa” on them, and I leave out the cookies and reindeer treats (birdseed). (…) My children are old enough to understand if his son decides to say something,” she continued in writing.
Despite this, Internet users did not mince their words to express their disagreement, and challenge the grandmother’s priorities.
“You prioritize the “magic of Christmas” over family time at Christmas. Santa Claus doesn’t exist, but your children’s older sister and nephew do. I know what relationship I would prioritize for them, and it’s not the jolly old elf,” one wrote.
Others offered solutions to try to find common ground.
“Could you explain to your children that not everyone believes in Santa Claus and that it’s okay? (…) It seems like there should be some creative solutions here that don’t make other members of your family feel unwelcome,” wrote a second, with more than 17,000 supporters.
