Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning confirmed in statements reported by the Russian TASS agency that the importance of BRICS as a platform for enhancing cooperation and unity among countries of the Global South has increased significantly.
The Chinese spokeswoman added that the expansion of BRICS representation and the increase in its influence make it a major platform for international cooperation.
A step towards enhancing cooperation
Mao Ning indicated that the agreement to grant Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan the status of partner countries represents a “new milestone” in the process of cooperation among BRICS members, according to what the agency stated.
This expansion reflects the growing attractiveness of the bloc, and confirms its growing role as a major platform for unifying efforts and enhancing cooperation between countries of the Global South.

According to statements by Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, Russia organized 250 events during its presidency of the BRICS.
These events included discussions on traditional and new areas of cooperation. One of the distinctive aspects of the Russian presidency has been the efforts made by Moscow to ensure smooth integration of new members into the BRICS structure and interaction mechanisms, according to TASS.
