Starbucks workers expanded their strike to include 4 other American cities, including New York, according to what was revealed by a union representing more than 10,000 cafe workers.

The Workers United union added, during a statement late yesterday evening, Saturday, that the 5-day strike that began on Friday, and initially resulted in the closure of Starbucks cafes in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, expanded to include New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis, and the location was not specified. Strike in New Jersey.

This strike comes at a time when boycott campaigns continue to pressure the company after a position that appeared to support Israel in its war on Gaza, which the company tried to deny.

impasse

The talks between the café chain and the union reached a dead end, due to unresolved points of disagreement regarding wages, the number of employees, and work schedules, which led to the strike.

The strike includes 10 cities, including Columbus, Denver and Pittsburgh, during the busy holiday season, which could affect the company’s Christmas sales.

The union indicated on Friday that the strike could extend to “hundreds of stores” by Tuesday, which will be Christmas Eve.

Starbucks began negotiations with the union last April, and said this month that it held more than 8 negotiating sessions during which 30 agreements were reached.

The company operates more than 11,000 cafes and stores in the United States, and employs about 200,000 workers.

It is noteworthy that a strike organized by Starbucks workers after the start of Israel’s war on Gaza, following a dispute over the company’s support for Israel, in addition to labor demands, led to a significant decline in its stock, which put pressure on the company’s financial performance during the current year.

The company’s shares declined by more than 8% during the current year, until the end of last week’s trading.
