A 55-year-old American motorist, who got behind the wheel of his vehicle in a state of intoxication, almost hit the procession of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris after driving against the flow of traffic.
The 50-year-old from Wisconsin took the exit ramp on the wrong side of I-794 at St. Paul Avenue in the Milwaukee area on Monday.
The driver moved to the left lane when the first car in the procession carrying Mme Harris was arriving at the city’s airport, according to local ABC affiliate WISN.
A Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy, who was driving the last vehicle in the motorcade, arrested the driver who failed several alcohol tests.
“He also stated that he had no intention of harming Vice President Kamala Harris or anyone connected to her campaign,” the arrest report said.
The 50-year-old, who had an open can of beer on board, was arrested for drunk driving and endangering the safety of others, and was held without bail.
