Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alp Arslan Bayraktar said that his country needs investments in the public and private sectors amounting to $108 billion to achieve the goal of quadrupling its capacity of wind and solar energy to reach 120,000 megawatts by 2035.
During an event to announce Türkiye’s road map in the field of renewable energy yesterday, Monday, Bayraktar said that the terms of the tender for the first renewable energy resources region for the year 2024 will be announced next week.
He added that the Ministry of Energy is working to introduce changes to the current regulations for investment in renewable energy and encourage the private sector to participate more.
As part of the efforts aimed at increasing this capacity, the Ministry will focus on requests to issue prior licenses and permits to operate stations with a total capacity of 34 thousand megawatts that have not yet turned into investments.
Bayrakdar said, “We need to accelerate and focus on the capacity that is in the process of investment… We aim to reduce the time period for obtaining a permit to two years from four years.”
He explained that, of the total investments needed to enhance energy, about $28 billion will be allocated to improving the infrastructure for transmission operations, building transformers, and installing high-voltage transmission networks across the country.
