A woman suffered one of the worst losses of her life when she learned of the death of her husband in a car accident. The mourning was short-lived, however, since the man was found alive in a Las Vegas hospital last month.
A “pedestrian” was struck on September 15 by a vehicle which then fled, according to a press release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the United States. The victim was transported to a trauma center, but he was pronounced dead two days later.
Authorities identified the body as Brandon Green. His wife, Esther Acosta, was inconsolable.
“It was like I had been hit, I was in shock. (…) I couldn’t believe it,” she declared to the American media News8.
However, his mourning quickly ended as the next day, police confirmed in an update that the Coroner’s Office had the wrong identity and that the body was that of another person.
“Mr. Green did not succumb to his injuries and is still receiving treatment at UMC (University Medical Center). He is in critical condition,” said a police press release in September.
“How can you have died by mistake? Has my husband’s heart stopped?” asked M.me Acosta.
According to an online fundraising site, Mr Green left intensive care in October but is still in hospital. He will have to stay there for at least three more months.
The man suffered a brain hemorrhage, blood clots and broken bones, his family said.
The driver was not found by the authorities.
