The celebrity photographer, Annie Leibovitz, took the front page photo, in muted tones: the 59-year-old former magistrate poses seated, with the hint of a smile, in a chocolate pantsuit and a matching satin blouse.
The editor-in-chief of the famous fashion magazine, the very influential Anna Wintour, makes no real secret of her support for the vice-president.
The long article devoted to Kamala Harris by the fashion magazine contains many biographical anecdotes, the vast majority of which are already known, but no major political or personal revelation.
On the hostilities in the Middle East for example, the vice-president, who is running a resolutely centrist and moderate campaign, does not break with her usual caution.
“I cannot anticipate what the situation will be in four months,” she said, as the conflict in Gaza, triggered by an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel, has spread to Lebanon, with a Israeli offensive against Hezbollah.
The Democratic candidate has ensured since entering the campaign in July that she supports Israel’s right to defend itself and the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.
“A Harris administration, to speak of myself in the third person, which I don’t feel very comfortable with, would try to articulate these aspects and produce a speech that reflects the complexity and nuance of what is happening in the region,” Kamala Harris told Voguewithout further specifying his point.
The vice-president, the first black woman and of Indian origin in this position, had already made the front page of the magazine when she arrived at the White House.
Vogue had published on the cover a rather casual photo showing her with her favorite canvas tennis shoes, from the Converse brand.
Internet users protested, believing that the publication should have chosen another, more polished photo, out of respect for the function.
Kamala Harris is relying in her race for the White House on the world of showbiz and entertainment.
She had recently participated in a show by the popess of American television, Oprah Winfrey, during which an armada of Hollywood stars intervened to support her.
