A young Arkansas couple was arrested after trying to sell their two-month-old baby for a check for US$1,000 and a case of six beers.

Darien Urban, 21, and Shalene Ehlers, 20, the baby’s parents, were arrested Sept. 21 after a Benton County campground manager contacted the local sheriff’s department to report the shameful transaction .

“We will not change your mind and we will never contact you again,” allegedly promised the couple who signed an “adoption contract” granting custody of the baby to a certain Cody Martin with a disclaimer. , CBS affiliate WREG reported.

The diligent intervention of the police made it possible to derail the diabolical plan of the irresponsible couple, while the infant who suffered from serious diaper rash was transported to the hospital, before being entrusted to the social services of the Arkansas.

According to court documents consulted by CBS News, the young mother kept in detention justified to the police the “sale” of her infant by the impossibility for the couple “to have three dogs and a baby”.

The couple is being prosecuted for “endangering a child” and “attempting to abandon a minor”, according to the American media which specifies that the suspect Urban was released on bail pending the hearing scheduled for October 29.
