US pop star Justin Timberlake will have to perform community service for driving while intoxicated, a judge ordered Friday at a court near New York, where the star pleaded guilty, according to US media reports.

The singer and actor was arrested one night in June while driving a BMW in the upscale Hamptons area of eastern New York. He had “bloodshot eyes, his breath smelled of alcohol” and was unable to keep his vehicle on a “proper” trajectory, according to police.

After initially pleading not guilty, which would have led to a trial, he finally pleaded guilty Friday to minor charges of drunken driving in a Sag Harbor court.

According to ABC, the judge sentenced him to a fine, 25 hours of community service and to make a public statement on road safety.

A former member of the boy band NSYNC in the late 1990s, the “prince of pop” embarked on a solo career as a singer, songwriter, producer and actor that propelled him to global stardom.

He has won ten Grammy Awards and four Emmys, the Academy Awards for Music and Television, respectively.
