A city in Maryland, USA, has announced that it will offer financial incentives of up to US$20,000 to new residents who move there.
To cope with the population decline, the administration of the City of Cumberland wants to attract families, which it promises to help settle there, not without praising the geographical location of this city located on the Potomac River, in Allegany County.
The package offered by the municipality includes $10,000 US for moving or the same amount of money for renovations to an existing residence, the City of Cumberland said on its website, according to the New York Post.
Less populated, Cumberland, which had some 18,769 inhabitants in 2022, or 12% less than in 2020, therefore hopes to attract families to repopulate the city center with its “undeniable” tourist attractions, according to the municipal administration, quoted by the New York tabloid.
“Every year, a quarter of a million visitors choose Cumberland’s amenities as their travel destination,” the city’s website said, highlighting public investment in the service sector.
