A California woman who was fed up with having her packages stolen allegedly delivered her burglars to police on a silver platter after slipping an AirTag into a package she sent to herself to track them.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the victim for her proactive response, while emphasizing that she also exercised appropriate caution in contacting law enforcement to safely and successfully apprehend the suspects,” the Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

On Monday at around 7:17 a.m., the woman reportedly contacted the police to inform them that her latest package had once again been stolen from its mailbox at the Los Alamos post office in California.

Except that this time, the Californian had prepared a trap for the thieves, by hiding an Apple AirTag, which allows the location of the object by GPS, in a package that she had sent to herself as bait for the bandits.

But instead of going to the scene herself to confront them when she saw that they had just taken the bait, she would have preferred to turn to the police force to give them the location of the thieves: a wise decision applauded by the sheriff’s office.

The latter thus managed to catch Virginia Francesca Lara, 27 years old and Donald Ashton Terry, 37 years old, who had in their possession the victim’s mail, we can read in the press release.

The duo are also suspected of having caused a dozen additional victims.

The two individuals were formally charged with possession of checks with intent to commit fraud, identity theft, credit card theft and conspiracy, and jailed on bails of $50,000 and $460,000 respectively – including several additional counts of theft for Donald Terry.
