Republican candidate Donald Trump is currently a “slight favorite,” according to Luc Laliberté in an interview with LCN. However, the rise in popularity of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris could change the course of the race.
“Quietly, we feel that the stakes are going to have to take up more space,” said Luc Laliberté. “We are playing demagogy, we are playing populism, whether in the positive in the Harris camp or in the dark in the Trump camp. We are playing on emotions again.”
“We may have more meat on the bone,” he added. “Ultimately, there may be more entrenched positions where (it will be possible to) make a choice on the issues. (…) We are closer to a traditional campaign, to the extent that it still exists.”
According to Mr. Laliberté, Donald Trump would benefit from ceasing the attacks against his rival.
“Republicans want it,” he said. “If I’m a Republican strategist, there are weaknesses on the Democratic side. I don’t want my candidate to get bogged down in personal attacks. I want him to play the cards that appeal to millions of Americans.”
The first of two debates between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will be held on September 10. The election to determine the next US president will be held on November 5.
