A Wisconsin woman faces spending more than a decade behind bars after admitting to trying to poison her veterinarian husband with his own stash of drugs used to euthanize animals.
This is what Fox News reported.
Amanda Alicia Chapin, 51, pleaded guilty Friday to reckless endangerment charges for stealing animal medications from her husband’s possession.
Her husband since March 2022, Gary Chapin, was quickly convinced by his new wife to add her to the deed to his residence.
Two weeks after this addition, Amanda Alicia Chapin put her plan into action. In August, she added barbiturate to her victim’s coffee. She then waited three hours before calling 911, after the third dose of the poison.
Doctors quickly detected the product. Gary Chapin came out of the coma four days later. He filed for divorce, in addition to obtaining an order to remove Mme Chapin of his son and him.
She loves him “a lot”
The accused later violated the court order. Nearly a month after the crime, Amanda Alicia Chapin sent him an email in which she threatened to take her own life.
“The only thing I’m guilty of is loving you A LOT,” she wrote.
She was initially charged with attempted murder in the case, before having the charges reduced to first-degree reckless endangerment on Friday after a guilty plea.
Amanda Alicia Chapin will receive her sentence on July 15. She risks spending more than 12 years behind bars.
