A Texas couple had quite a surprise Saturday morning while taking a walk with their daughter and their dog; the small family found a newborn baby abandoned on the side of the road.
It was in order to avoid the intense heat that Daniela Fedele and her family decided to go out early Saturday morning, around 9 a.m. The 3-year-old girl, who was on a bicycle, then passed by a towel.
“I noticed two little feet moving, and then my husband was right behind me with the dogs, and I yelled to my husband. I was like, “oh, my god, a baby, a baby.” And then (I told my husband) ‘call 911, call 911’ and that’s what we did,” she said in an interview with local news channel KHOU 11.
According to authorities, the child was born Saturday morning before being abandoned. The premature girl, who still had her umbilical cord attached, was then transported to the hospital where she remains in stable condition, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Chief Ed Gonzalez said in a Facebook post.
“We need your help! We are seeking information on a young Hispanic or white male, thin, light complexion and dark hair, who was holding the baby wrapped in a towel. He was wearing a black shirt, maybe gray pants. The man was walking on the Plantation Lakes walking trail,” he added.
According to Sergeant Juan Garcia, the man could face charges of abandonment and child endangerment. At a press briefing, he explained that, thanks to the vigilance of Daniela Fedele and her partner, the child was not outside for long in very hot temperatures.
