An individual shot randomly in a playground in the US state of Michigan (north) on Saturday, injuring at least nine people, including a child, the local sheriff announced.

The suspect was found dead in a residence located in a neighborhood near the scene of the tragedy, according to information provided by the authorities.

The shooting happened in Rochester Hills, a suburb of the city of Detroit, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

“The individual parked, got out of his vehicle, approached the playground, opened fire. He reloaded, opened fire, left. At this stage, it looks a lot like a random act,” Sheriff Michel Bouchard told the press. According to him, the shooter had no “links with the victims”.

The shooting left between nine and ten injured, including an eight-year-old child, the sheriff said. A Glock brand pistol and several empty magazines were found at the scene.

With more guns than people, the United States has the highest gun death rate of any developed country. Shootings are a recurring scourge that successive governments have so far been powerless to stem, with many Americans remaining very attached to their weapons.
