A man has died and a woman remains in critical condition while relaxing at the spa of an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. Everything suggests that they were electrocuted by the defective device, according to the authorities.
The man, a 43-year-old tourist from Texas, identified as Jorge G., died and his wife, Lizette Z., was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The event occurred around 10 p.m. at the Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, according to the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office, according to KTSM.
According to statements from the Attorney General’s Office, the burns on the woman’s body appear to indicate that she was electrocuted. This electric shock could have been caused by a defective cable, he specifies.
A witness who knew the couple said he saw them in the spa, but the two were not moving. He immediately called for help.
Other witnesses also mentioned that they tried to help the couple, but by the time they arrived, it was too late. The man already had no pulse, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
An investigation has been opened into this matter.
A GoFundMe was set up by the couple’s best friends to help ensure Lizette’s return home and the cost of medical care.
Already, 33,561 US dollars have been raised.
