Moroccan Minister of Tourism Fatima Zahra Ammor discussed with Rao Quan, Chinese Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, ways to enhance tourism cooperation between the two countries. This came during a meeting that brought together the two parties in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, today, Friday.
A statement by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism said that the two parties stressed the importance of cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries, especially in the tourism field.
According to the statement, the two parties expressed their common desire to enhance tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Amour also expressed her desire to encourage Chinese tourism investments in Morocco, in order to keep pace with the momentum witnessed by the destination, especially in light of preparations for major sporting events, according to the statement.
She called on Chinese tour operators to include Morocco more in their programs, so that Chinese tourists can discover the diversity of tourism experiences in the country, especially in the cultural, desert and beach fields.
The statement quoted the Chinese Deputy Minister as saying that Morocco has become among the favorite destinations of Chinese tourists.
He continued, according to the statement, the existence of new air links between the two countries that would enhance the flow of tourists between the two destinations.
During the first five months of 2024, the ministry’s data showed an increase in the number of foreign tourists who visited Morocco by 15%.
According to the ministry, the number of foreign tourists who arrived in the country reached about 5.9 million, from the beginning of this year until the end of last May.
Tourism is the second source of foreign exchange in the Kingdom during 2023 after remittances from Moroccan expatriates abroad.
The tourism sector in Morocco continues to develop, as the sector’s revenues recorded for the first time $10 billion in 2023, after receiving 14.5 million tourists.
The Kingdom is betting on attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026, especially as it is about to organize major sporting events and international conferences.
The most notable of these events is its hosting of the 2025 African Football Cup and the 2030 FIFA World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
