Data from the Turkish Ministry of Tourism showed that the number of foreign visitors to the country increased by 8.7% to 3.61 million visitors last April compared to last year.
The number of foreign visitors reached 3.32 million in the same month of 2023, and the number was 2.57 million in April 2022.
The data revealed that most of the visitors arriving last April were from Germany, Russia, Britain, Bulgaria and Iran.
It is noteworthy that Turkey’s revenues from the tourism sector in 2022 amounted to about $46.28 billion, according to the Turkish Statistical Authority (TurkStat).
The Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance had set a goal of receiving 60 million foreign tourists in 2023, and increasing tourism revenues to $56 billion. The country also aims to receive 90 million tourists in 2028, and raise tourism revenues to $100 billion.
The Turkish government attaches great importance to the tourism sector and works to develop it continuously. It is considered one of the most important economic sectors and an important source of national income. The sector enjoys a strong infrastructure, tourism facilities, and services that have made it advanced globally.
As part of its efforts to expand tourism, Turkey last month launched a mobile work visa for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Bulgaria, Romania, Norway, and Iceland. Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus, aged 21 to 55 years.
