Howard University in Washington had to cancel a graduation ceremony after the disturbance caused by relatives of students who were prevented from accessing the auditorium and saw its windows smashed.
If relatives of nursing students gathered Thursday in the Cramton Auditorium in Washington, this is not the case for all their loved ones, since the room had reached its capacity, reported the “New York Post” on Monday.
As the ceremony began with the opening speech, dozens of parents stood outside the closed doors of the room chanting “Let us in!” causing a crowd movement which shattered a window of the establishment.
Photos shared on social networks show parents of students trying to force the doors to enter in front of a visibly overwhelmed security service, which forced security officials to call the firefighters.
Howard University reported on the X platform that security guards kicked out a man before the ceremony before returning to smash the glass door outside the auditorium.
“This incident caused unrest among guests outside the establishment, resulting in a disruption of the program,” according to the Howard University press release, which specifies that “guests in attendance were immediately dispersed following this incident.”
