A pastor in the town of Braddock, Pennsylvania, suffered the scare of his life when a man tried to shoot him while he was leading a service. The gun jammed when the suspect pulled the trigger.
Police arrested Bernard Polite last Sunday when he entered Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church and shot pastor Glenn Germany.
A video of the incident was captured and posted on social networks by the man of the Church.
“I told myself that couldn’t be true,” he said. I thank God because it is thanks to him that the shot did not go off.”
As the pastor moved out of the shooter’s path, Clarence McCallister, the church deacon, lunged at the suspect and pinned him to the ground.
“Someone had to react. I jumped at the opportunity to eliminate the threat,” McCallister said.

“He’s a hero,” Mr. Germany added of his colleague.
The two clerics were able to control the suspect until the police arrived.
“The guy had spirits in his head,” Mr. Germany said. He came here wanting to shoot someone.”
It was obvious to the pastor that Bernard Polite suffered from mental health problems. The latter apologized. Glenn Germany has forgiven him, even though he has difficulty processing everything that happened.
“The thing that hurt me the most was not being able to comfort my daughter,” confessed the pastor, moved.
His 14-year-old daughter was attending mass when the attack occurred.
“I had to be strong for her, but I had a hard time seeing her like that,” he added.
Mr. Germany hopes his story will raise awareness of mental health issues in his community.
Polite will remain in custody until his preliminary hearing. He faces several charges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder.
