Two nasty phone calls in Ohio last month led two strangers to meet in circumstances that turned deadly.
This story, as incredible as it is improbable, returned to court this week, occurred on March 25 when Loletha Hall, an Uber delivery person, received a call to send her to pick up a package at a residence in South Charleston.
However, upon her arrival, the delivery woman found herself struggling with the resident of the place, William Brock, an 81-year-old man. The latter can be seen brandishing a gun towards Mme Hall, in a video captured by a surveillance camera placed in his vehicle.
What the victim did not know when he went to this address was that, in the moments preceding his arrival there, Mr. Brock himself had been called on more than one occasion by a fraudster. The latter had used the grandparent fraud scheme, which consists of pretending to be a person in a position of authority, in order to try to extract money from him on the grounds that one of his relatives would be in difficulty. .
For Mr Brook, the arrival of Mrme Hall’s entry was mistaken for the scam calls, so he responded by confronting the woman with a gun, prosecutors said, according to a CNN report.
The situation escalated to the point where the octogenarian used his weapon, opening fire several times on Mme Lobby.
The man was ultimately charged with murder, among other charges, and pleaded not guilty Wednesday during his final appearance in court.
