A crackdown on organized crime allowed police to arrest four people and seize more than US$300,000 worth of Lego in California.
Police conducted searches last week in Los Angeles and Orange counties where they arrested three men and a woman, CBS News reported.
Jeremy Johnson, 44, Marta Hardt, 39, Chung-Pei Yu, 47, and Shen Li, 35, were arrested on suspicion of organized retail theft, said investigators who discovered the boxes lining the walls of residences searched.
The majority of the Lego boxes seized were stolen from retail stores, such as Target, Home Depot and Lowe’s, by the suspects who then offered them for resale online or in person.
As a reminder, at the end of 2023, a Lego store in Las Vegas which had just opened suffered four thefts in a few days causing damage of US$2,000, without the police getting their hands on the suspects.
Previously, a serial thief was caught and prosecuted for stealing Lego boxes worth US$7,000 on 13 occasions from Target stores.
