A 102-year-old Californian in a wheelchair was ordered with his 70-year-old son to repaint the fence of their home vandalized by graffiti or face a fine of US$12,000.
Victor Silva found red and black graffiti on the back fence of his home in the city of Oakland, where the administration has given him a deadline of March 19 to erase it, according to what the “New” reported York Post” Thursday.
The centenarian may erase the graffiti, but it is redrawn by criminals the next day, exposing him to a fine of US$1,100 with an additional US$1,277 for each violation.
“It was very easy because I was an entrepreneur, you know. I will be 103 in about two months. It slowed things down a bit, you know,” explained Mr. Silva, who painted the graffiti for years without encountering any problems.
Mr. Silva’s family finds the City’s decision to fine the centenarian ridiculous, while the latter’s son fears that other people of his father’s age will be harassed in this way, according to the American media.
