Although the child appeared to be out of breath at first, those on site quickly realized it was a more serious problem, his mother Sarah Stuebe said on Instagram.
“Without knowing what had happened, I called 9-1-1 and handed the phone to another parent while I ran toward center field. After seeing Oscar and assessing his symptoms, I started (cardiac resuscitation (CPR)) on my son,” she said.
“Amidst the uncertainty of the past week, one fact remains clear and unanimously clear: CPR saved Oscar’s life!” added the woman.
If some people already know about Commotio cordis, it is because American footballer Damar Hamlin experienced the same thing last year.
“Baseball and lacrosse are two sports that carry an increased risk for Commotio Cordis, so I am writing this post not to scare, but to empower. While chest protectors can provide additional protection to our little athletes, there is no substitute for CPR and AED education,” Stuebe added, directing the world to CPR classes.
