Artificial intelligence appears to be making a real impact on the job market, as automation and digitization seep into every professional sector, from factories to boardrooms, threatening both white- and blue-collar jobs.

According to strategic management consultant Canan Duman, sectors such as manufacturing, media, transportation, health, law and technology are facing unprecedented challenges due to artificial intelligence. The question today is no longer “whether jobs will change,” but “to what extent and at what speed?”, in a clear indication that adaptation and change are now essential.

In the report published by the Turkish version of the Independent newspaper, the writer reviewed the ten professions that artificial intelligence threatens to eliminate.

1- Production and manufacturing sector

The production and manufacturing sector comes first, where workers in production lines are particularly affected, because the development of automated systems has reduced the demand for manual labor, and has thus brought about a major transformation in automobile production lines. It is also used to increase efficiency, improve quality, and reduce errors, which has made manufacturing systems more intelligent.

Artificial intelligence has revolutionized the production line sector in factories through several notable updates, including: Predicting failures before they happen, andEnhanced quality control, andImprove energy consumption, andSupply Chain Management, andIncrease productivity by using robots and intelligent systems to automate repetitive tasks.

2- Inspection systems

Quality inspectors are a close second, says Janan, as AI-powered inspection systems are now taking on the task of detecting defects and anomalies, transforming quality control processes. In fact, these systems have been shown to be more accurate than human inspectors, detecting defects that humans might miss, and improving inspection accuracy by up to 30%. Additionally, AI speeds up the inspection process, reducing downtime and improving overall production quality.

3- Linguistic reviewers and editors

According to the strategic management consultant, proofreaders and editors of films and TV series in the media and entertainment sectors are the third most affected by AI, due to advanced software that reviews texts and checks for linguistic errors. These programs are now able to detect and correct a wide range of errors with limited human intervention, which greatly reduces the need for traditional proofreaders.

Artificial intelligence has provided several solutions in the field of linguistic review, such as:Automated proofreading that uses machine learning techniques to analyze texts and detect linguistic, grammatical, and spelling errors.Style improvement: AI tools can suggest improvements to your writing style.

For film and TV editors, their profession is undergoing a major transformation due to the development of AI-powered editing tools. These tools automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks in the editing process, such as automatically matching shots, adjusting audio levels, and adding visual effects. The development of AI systems is expected to allow editors to focus on the creative and complex aspects of their work.

4- Taxi sector

Fourth, the writer pointed to the impact of the spread of ride-sharing applications and the development of self-driving vehicles on the taxi sector. Taxi drivers face intense competition from applications such as Uber and Lyft, which offer more convenient and less expensive options for passengers. The development of self-driving vehicles also has a significant impact on the sector, as reliance on human drivers may decline as these vehicles become more widespread, which may lead to a decrease in demand for traditional taxi services.

5- Lawyers’ Assistants

The legal profession ranks fifth, especially paralegals; AI-powered legal research tools and document automation software are now able to perform many tasks once performed by traditional paralegals, such as conducting legal research, drafting contracts, and preparing petitions. As a result, demand for paralegals may decrease in areas that can be easily automated.

6- Healthcare sector

In the healthcare space, Duman said the work of medical image analysts—such as radiologists—and other professionals could also be impacted by AI. AI-powered tools are increasingly competing with these specialties by improving the accuracy of medical image analysis such as X-rays and MRIs. Studies show that AI algorithms can diagnose conditions such as breast cancer, lung cancer, and diabetic retinopathy with greater accuracy and effectiveness than doctors, in some cases.

7- Website development

The author also pointed out the impact of artificial intelligence on the field of website development. In the past, website developers were essential in creating such websites, but now they face strong competition from AI-powered website builders that can generate codes and design websites automatically.

These tools allow non-specialists to easily create complex websites, reducing the need for traditional web development skills. While AI can handle basic tasks like creating templates or writing code, it often falls short in areas that require creativity, problem solving, and specialized knowledge, such as designing unique, visually appealing websites or developing complex applications that require custom integration.

8- Store sellers

According to Duman’s article in the Turkish version of “The Independent”, the development of technology is expected to affect the work of sellers in stores, as automatic payment technology and mobile payments have reduced the need for human cashiers in stores.

9- Banking sector

Next comes bank employees, as online banking windows, ATMs and mobile banking apps reduce the need for traditional window employees.

Artificial intelligence has provided several solutions in the banking sector, such as: Managing risk by analyzing big data and identifying patterns that may indicate potential risks, andDetecting fraudulent activities by analyzing unusual behaviors in accounts and financial transactions, as well as Analyze data to provide personalized offers and services to each customer based on their behaviors and financial needs, andInvestment portfolio management.

10- Tourism and travel sector

Lastly, travel agencies, where AI-powered online booking platforms and travel apps are revolutionizing the travel industry.

Although these professions face significant challenges, their demise is not inevitable. Some jobs may become obsolete, while others will evolve to keep pace with technological advances.

The key to survival in the job market, according to strategic management consultant Janan Duman, will be acquiring new skills, embracing technological developments and developing unique human characteristics.
