The Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts of the Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that Morocco witnessed a record number of 10 million tourists by the end of July 2024, an increase of 15% compared to the same period a year ago.
The Directorate explained, in its latest bulletin, that “the destination of Morocco received a record number of 2.6 million tourists during July 2024, with a growth rate of 20%.
During the first seven months of 2024, a new record was recorded during this period of the year, reaching 10 million tourists arriving in the Kingdom, representing an increase of 15%.
Regarding the number of overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments, the Directorate confirmed that it had increased by 8.4% at the end of June 2024, reaching 12.7 million overnight stays, highlighting that this development covers a significant increase of 13.1% to 7.2 million during the second quarter of 2024.
Regarding tourism revenues, they concluded the second quarter of 2024 with a growth of 9.4%, raising their growth to 2.3% at the end of last June.
2030 forecasts
Morocco says its tourism revival plan envisions welcoming 26 million tourists annually by 2030.
Tourism is the second source of foreign currency in Morocco in 2023, after remittances from expatriates abroad, which amounted to nearly $11.5 billion, according to data from the Kingdom’s Exchange Office.
Tourism continues to achieve continuous development, especially after the sector’s revenues broke $10 billion for the first time in 2023, after receiving 14.5 million tourists.
